On September 13, I didn't realize that stepping into a place with everyone running around trying to find a pen and mark their name and email on 10 papers at once would start a huge impact on my life. Not just on my life but for all the new students here at Lasell College who are scrambling to find a new activity in their college life. With a least sixty clubs to join, I managed to find six and have already attended two in a day. I’m a very social person but also curious at the same time so I’m willing to try anything, including taking a shot at knitting needles in knitting club. I’m thinking to myself “ Oh , it will just be like sewing “ but it’s a total different experience in my eyes.
I’ll be completely honest here, I have only knitted at least three times in my life and that was when I would go over to my grandma’s house where she wanted to show me how to knit. First it took practice but I got the hang of it after all the yarn loops on my fingers and picking out colorful yarn for the different seasons. Now the funny part is that I was ten years old and of course I didn’t stick with her little knitting class after all. Now I wish I stayed in the game. However, I definitely want to stay in knitting club because it’s also a social hour of meeting new kids and playing ice breaker games. Yes, Grandmother Rebecca had to start a section for me but again, practice makes perfect.
Now about the student activities fair, It was difficult to find clubs because of how spread out it was but keep in the mind, this gymnasium looked like New York City on saturday nights at this time. Music was blaring louder that I couldn't even hear important details about what do some clubs focus on or what’s the purpose behind this club? I wish I got a chance to ask more questions than just signing my name on a overcrowded sign up sheet. Polished Magazine’s line didn't even look like a line because of how many fashion designers, merchandise, and even art design kids were hogging up the space to fill out what position they are interested in doing. I was surprised I could find a space for my name under the writing position and social media. Graphic Design needed more signatures but I had to pass. Sorry Polished.
I was able to get some answers about joining the CAB society, Residential Life, Improv club, Chorus, and Fashion Connection which really intrigued me. Who doesn't want to attend Fashion shows in Boston, New York City, and learn about creating your own trend for the whole world to see thanks to your Fashion Professors after you receive your first job in fashion or even business. Everyone who was involved with these clubs seemed like they were committed to being a leader which is what our college’s faculty has been telling us since Lasell Day in the spring. Join a club, Meet new people, try new activities, get involved, be flexible, become a leader, watch your world change in just a day.
