According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 1,825 college students die from alcohol related deaths.
Here are some tips to keep you safe and to lessen the number of bad decisions you make and the hangovers:
1. Drink water. Seriously, your body is like 60 percent water.
2. Don't leave your drink unsupervised. Drugs can be in drinks or substances can be laced within something else and can unintentionally harm you.
3. Always have a buddy. It makes you less of a target for assault.
4. Check in with the delegated buddy and have check in times. You don't have to be their mom and they don't have to be your mom; there just has to be someone who knows if you go missing.
5. Keep your phone charged and on you. What if you get lost?
6. Don't skip meals. Drinking on an empty stomach is bad and not eating is also bad.
7. Don't carry cash. You'll probably lose it. Try not to lose your wallet too.
8. If you choose to have a sexual partner, always use protection. It keeps you safer from diseases and prevents unexpected pregnancies.
9. Wear sunscreen! You'll probably forget, but nothing makes you more dehydrated than a sunburn and a hangover.
10. Taking pictures isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can help you figure out where you were during your latest blackout.
11. Make sure you have a ride home and a place to stay.
Maybe adopt the motto "What happens on spring break..."
So if you take anything away from this article: Be safe. Have fun. Drink water.
