Admit it, once you accepted that offer at school, the next thing to worry about was living with another person. Sharing a room, sharing personal space, sharing a sink, sharing a fridge and microwave aren't exactly the ideal living situations. Sometimes you were excited and other times, you just weren’t feeling it.
Yet, somehow, living with that one person for over nine months has really brought you guys closer on a whole new level. Between figuring out what classes to take to what parties to attend that night and even to listening to each other’s “boy stories,” it’s really quite obvious why you’ll be so close to each other forever.
1. You know each other’s schedules. You know when she’ll be in the room and she’ll know that your Mondays and Wednesdays are booked solid. She’ll know what time your dance practices are and you’ll know her work schedule for the week. But in case you forget, the schedules have pinned to the cork board for reference.
2. Your favorite dining hall. You could eat the pasta from West End every day and she could care less. Honestly, she’ll probably be standing in line next to you.
3. You’ve had crazy dance parties in the room together. Let’s just all jump on our beds and blast that Spotify playlist and get super excited for the rest of the day.
4. She’s seen you at your best and your worst. She’s been there, sitting in bed and comforting you when you’ve felt so awful that you’ve cried yourself to sleep. She’s not ever been afraid to tell you the cold hard truth and force you to suck it up and move on. Yet, she’s been there to be your biggest cheerleader and support your every decision; she’s cheered for you when you landed that interview for the internship and you’ve been ecstatic when she’s nailed every job interview in the span of your freshman year.
5. She’s begun to understand you more than you may sometimes understand yourself. Constantly being around someone causes you to pick up on things about them that you wouldn’t necessarily realize. She’s able to answer questions, that I have about myself which I can’t seem to figure out, in a single heartbeat. Plus, it didn’t take long for her to realize just how crazy I really am.
6. My roommate has taught me quite a few valuable lessons. She has taught me that laughter really is the best medicine. I learned that we must take every experience we’ve had, whether it’s good or bad, make the best of, and learn something from it. She’s taught me that losing sleep to make lifelong memories is ALWAYS okay. Despite our numerous fights and ups and downs, I know I’ll always have someone to count on and that we will always be friends forever.
Thank you for being a wonderful roommate and always having my back. Thank you for teaching me so many amazing life lessons. Thank you for believing in me especially when I didn’t believe in myself. And thank you for being a wonderful roomie.
