One of the greatest perks of joining a sorority is getting a big sister to guide you through the process and teach you the ropes. If you are lucky, your Big can truly be your perfect match and be one of your greatest friends. I am so fortunate to have my Big in my life and there are many reasons why she has quickly become one of my best friends. Here are just a few of the reasons why I am so lucky to have my Big by my side.

1. She has been there for me at all times

My Big is always there when I need her. Whether I'm stressed about school or life in general, she is always there to listen and offer advice. She always sticks up for me and shows that she is constantly looking out for my best interest.

2. She can always make me laugh

Whenever my Big and I are together, we can never stop cracking up and laughing the whole time. We are always there to cheer each other up and brighten each other's moods when we are having a rough day. Best friends never take each other too seriously, and my Big and I definitely act that way.

3. She pushes me out of my comfort zone

I am often nervous and too scared to try anything remotely out of my comfort zone. I often stay in my own little bubble and am unwilling to step outside of it. My Big does everything in her power to break me out of my shell. She has taught me to not be so serious all the time and to open up. In the short time that i have been her Little, she has already helped me to increase my confidence and try so many new things. I am so thankful for her because of that.

4. She is one of my role models

I always look to my best friends to be some of my greatest role models. My Big definitely falls into this category. There are so many qualities that I admire about her and would like to replicate myself. She is brave, a free spirit and one of the most dedicated people I have ever met. She gives her all and puts her whole heart into everything she does. She is teaching me to be a better person.

5. She has made me a happier person

Ever since I have met my Big and became her Little, she has made my life better. I have a new friend that has added so much to my life and I couldn't imagine my life without her at this point.

All in all, my Big is easily one of my greatest friends. She has loved me, inspired me, and cared for me in ways that I could never repay her for. Being Big and Little is not all about the gifts or the crafts, it is about creating a friendship and bond that will last for the rest of our lives. My Big and I will only grow to be closer, but I am happy to say we are off to a great start.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
