Listening to the right kind of music can work wonders if you're trying to focus, relax, pump mad iron or feel like you are in a movie or video game as you are walking around. I always have more fun going about my day to day activities when I listen to music. One day while I road the campus shuttle, I looked around and saw that all four of the passengers had their earphones in. Whether or not they were listening to music is beyond my knowledge (they could just have them in to avoid talking to others.) But let's assume they were all listening to music. Depending on the type of music, they could be in completely different worlds, and that's why listening to music can be so powerful in changing the tune of your day. For example, maybe it's just a windy day, but with some Beyonce in your ears, you could be strutting through one of her music videos instead of just blowing around town.
If you're a nerd like me, you may like to listen to epic, orchestrated, adventure inspiring music such as the beloved The Legend of Zelda soundtracks. I mean, if soundtracks enhance the quality of movies and video games, wouldn't it do the same for every day life? You could do the same with your favorite movie. People might just see you walk by with headphones on, but you aren't walking across that sidewalk -- you're walking into mordor. Impressive. It doesn't have to be a stereotypically nerdy movie either. If you are really into, say, Dear John, you could find the soundtrack for that movie and play it in the background, pretending you are in the movie yourself. Or you could go one step further and compile a playlist of songs you would want to be in the soundtrack for your life. Maybe someone will make a movie about it and use your soundtrack.
If you want to feel like you are up in space instead of lying in your bed at night, trying to fall asleep, try turning on some ambient electronic tunes such as this channel called "Space Dreams" from the online music radio Digitally Imported. Yes there are some ads, and this can be a downside if you are trying to relax. It can go from soothing, flowing gentle musically pleasing sounds to a bunch of car horns in split seconds. It has happened to me, I'm just relaxing in bed and then BAM car horns blare through my speakers, and instead of being on the verge of slumber I'm on the verge of falling off my bed in fright. So here's to hoping the best that that doesn't happen to you.
Whatever type of music you are into, playing it throughout your day is almost always guaranteed to improve the quality of your day. If you are feeling down, counteract those sad feelings by playing music that tends to put a spring in your step. It might help you to move forward in your day with a positive outlook. The start of each day can have an effect on the rest of your day as well, so starting your your morning with your favorite tunes in your ear holes is a good way to make sure you get off on the right foot.
