“How I Met Your Mother” isn’t just a TV show. It teaches us important lessons as well. Here are some of the ones I have taken away.
1. Anger
Ted taught us after Stella left him at the altar that you don’t have to bottle up your anger or throw it in someone’s face. Sometimes, it’s okay to just let something go. It’s not always worth it to hold grudges or resent someone.
2. The Cheerleader Effect
The Cheerleader Effect is a theory created by Barney. When one sees an entire group of women (such as cheerleaders), they may think that because the whole group together looks hot, that each individual is hot. However, if you look closely, every individual has some sort of flaw, making the person realize that not everyone is hot in the group. This teaches us that just because a group looks intimidating or mean, doesn’t mean that every individual is. Don’t judge a person based on the people that they hang out with.
3. Sometimes You Have To Walk Away
When Barney sees Nora in the restaurant, he has to make the decision whether or not to go apologize to her. But we see that he knows that he has already hurt her enough, and sometimes the best apology is to walk away, even if it hurts.
4. Take Chances
Ted tells Robin he loves her. He steals a blue French horn for her. The Naked Man. How I Met Your Mother taught us that you should never have regrets. If you want to do something, do it. If you aren’t sure you want to do it, do it anyway. You never know what might happen.
5. Do your Research
Make sure that you are always prepared for the occasion. If you have an interview, make sure to dress business professional. Or in Robin’s case, make sure that you bring an appropriate gift to the party. Don’t ever be embarrassed because you didn’t prepare for an event.
6. The Perfect Cocktail
Know how to handle your alcohol. I’ll let this one speak for itself.
