College life can get expensive

It’s not uncommon for a college student to be in need of some money; whether it’s money for tuition, Greek life dues, or just some extra spending money, college is expensive and almost everyone I know is low on cash. But this doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Here are a few ways to make some extra cash when you are in college.

1.Save up all your coins then find a coin star

Ah yes, the oldest way to get a couple of dollars, but it’s actually the easiest. Use your own change, ask your friends if they have some unwanted change (let’s face it, coins can be annoying just ask anyone), and always pick up that dirty penny you see when you are walking around campus.

2. Sell your unwanted clothes

Gather up all of your out of style clothing that you know will never make a come back, like that peplum tank top you bought four years ago, and make a run to Plato’s Closet. They might not want everything you have, but at the least they will take one or two items. Or if you have something against them, try selling on Ebay.

3. Get a part-time job

This might be a little more difficult for some; this might require a car, an open schedule, and a little motivation. I get it, who wants to work when you’re taking classes at the same time which includes countless amount of quizzes, papers, and exams. At least it’s always an option!

4.Sign up for psychology studies

This is by far my favorite way to make money. Go to your psychology building on campus and find where they hang out flyers. Look for a few that pertain to you (most of the time they want a college age student that can read English) and send an email saying you’re interested in participating. It’s that easy! They’ll contact you back asking when you can participate then you’re on your way to making ten bucks. Depending on what the experiment is and how long it’ll take, the paycheck will vary.

5. Become a tutor

Everyone needs help with something, and if you’re really good at a certain subject then why not help someone else? This gives you flexible hours and you set your own rate.

6. Sell your blood

Don’t freak out on this one; selling your plasma is a win-win. When you donate, you are saving lives while getting paid to do it. It’s basically donating blood except it takes a little longer and you get more snacks at the end.

And if all of those don't work out for you, there is one final way. It might not always work 100% of the time, but it's worth a shot.

7. Ask your parents/family

If you desperately need money right away ask your parents, make it sound like it’s life or death. Also, birthdays and holidays are the perfect opportunity to ask.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
