Since my first year of college has come to a close, I can honestly say that it was the best time of my life so far. So, for those who are entering college and even those who have been there for a year or two, this one is for you.
My freshman year of college was based around taking every opportunity I could possibly take. I told myself before I began freshman year to push myself out of my comfort zone, take chances, meet new people, and make the best of it. I did just that.
I joined a sorority even though I barely knew anything about it and shortly fell in love with it. This sounds cliche, but I met so many new girls who quickly became some of my very best friends. After becoming a part of Tri Delta, I was able to go to countless events, socials, formals, and philanthropy events with fraternities and other sororities and began to meet even more new people. The memories that I have made through Tri Delta are endless and completely treasured.
Tri delta also led me to crazy adventures such as a ski trip and spring break. Since I was a big college girl now, I got an entire month off between the fall and spring semesters. So, why not go on a ski trip? This trip was hands down one of the funnest weeks of my life. I was able to go to Telluride, Colorado with about 60 of my delta friends and also friends from high school. We were able to ski for four days, experience an amazing view, and go to concerts at night. Even with a handful of wipeouts on the slopes, going on ski trip was unforgettable.
Spring break came a few months later. Twenty of my closest friends and I headed to Destin, Florida for a week, where we shared a huge house and prepared ourselves for hot weather and beautiful beaches. We spent all our time during the day getting a tan or hanging with the fraternity boys who managed to place themselves right next to us. The beaches swarmed with UL students; everywhere I turned, I found someone that I knew. After a long day, we usually spent the afternoons taking two or three hour long naps to recuperate. The nights were saved for hanging out with everyone in the house, playing games, and partying with all the other UL students there. After seven long days, it is easy to say that spring break was another incredible trip. Finally, Leading into the summer I was granted with the opportunity to be a counselor at camp ozark for two months, which definitely changed my life.
With this being the end of my first year of college, I realized that all the trips I have taken, all the events I was a part of, and all the opportunities placed in front of me were all so worth it (even if I didn't study as much as I could have). The big question that sticks out to me is “Why not?” Why not take the opportunity if it is in front of you? Why not take a leap?
So to those of you who feel as if they haven’t had the full college experience yet, ask yourself the same questions. You only go to college as a twenty year old once, so take advantage of it. You won’t look back on college and rave about the night you stayed up until 2 a.m. studying for a class that probably will not even help you with your degree later on in life, but I promise that you will always remember the nights when you danced the night away with your best friends. My advice to you is to do everything you possibly can while in college because these opportunities may not come back.
