If you're among the ages of 18 to 20, good for you! You're not only in the middle of the most carefree time of your life, but also the most confusing. If you're over 18 you can vote, serve your country and buy cigarettes, which seems to me like only things trusted adults should be doing. However, you, as an adult, can't purchase, consume or even sometimes be in the same building as alcohol.
This isn't usually a big deal, and I definitely agree with the argument's as to why minors shouldn't consume alcohol. But when you're an adult in a college environment and you're not yet 21, it's easy to still feel like the younger brother or sister who isn't allowed to stay up as late as the big kids. You're surrounded by "legal" adults who are going out to tons of places that look super fun and you're super excited to go with them until you realize you can't. Or, you could but you'd have to leave earlier than all your friends. This is what being an underage adult feels like. And it stinks.
This article has absolutely nothing to do with you personally choosing to drink alcohol once you do finally turn 21. Regardless of your relationship, or lack of, with alcohol, I'm sure you can relate to at least one of these awkward, and annoying, moments of being one of the only ones in your friend group who is underage.
Always being the DD.
Of course I'm always going to make sure everyone gets home safely, but being the designated driver is a lot like babysitting a bunch of baby monkeys that always want Taco Bell. No one looks forward to this responsibility.
Being called a baby.
Never heard that one before!
Large X's on the back of your hands while your friends get wristbands.
Being the reason your friend group can't go somewhere that's 21 and up.
Being invited to the birthday dinner but not the outing afterward.
Sorry I can't go, but call me later if you need a ride!
