Spending five months in a foreign country adjusting to new people, new environment was hard enough... fast forward three months later it is time to go back to normal college in the States with people I have not seen since December. Anxiety is kicking in and not sure how it is going to be adjusting back to the environment with people who continued the semester here without us. If you have been here I am glad to know I am not alone. So here are just a few things that I think will help anyone who is in the same boat as me:
1. It is okay to feel out of place first but just remember you have had the experience of a lifetime.
2. Breathing during frustrating situations or when you miss the place you called home for so long will make a difference .
3. Try to jump right back into the normalities of your school you are returning to.
4. Take the experiences and the memories you have and turn them into something positive.
5. Get used to people telling you how often you talk about your abroad trip (I get this all the time and do not even realize it).
Adjustment is hard for everyone whether it is returning just from summer break or being gone a whole semester abroad. It is important to return to campus open minded and take it all in from both ends of your experience. Remaining calm when all you wanna do is get on a plane back to your abroad country will help, and just remember how fortunate you are to have had this experience.
