The fact that the month of June is almost over scares me incredibly. Where has the time gone? And why is there only a month and a half of summer left?
Before this summer started, I wrote out everything I wanted to do, each place I wanted to go, all the fun things I had in mind. Basically, this summer was going to be a flawless mix of relaxation, work and enjoyment. While it's fun to daydream about the perfect summer, I know scratching off each goal on my list is a little unrealistic with demanding online classes and 40 hours on the job each week. Each day pretty much goes like wake up, eat, work, eat, lay in bed and sleep. By the time I have gotten home from work, and finished all my classwork, I love nothing more than sleeping or watching Netflix. Haven’t gone to the beach yet, no signs of a tan, and I have not been anywhere outside of a three-hour radius.
It may not be the summer I envisioned, but it still will be just as great because I have found ways to incorporate a few fun activities with this schedule, and so can you! So here are a few ideas to help all of you who dream of a great summer while juggling a job and schoolwork because this is our prime time to enjoy being home, seeing friends, traveling to places, relaxing and just having fun.
Take advantage of your day off!
The one day of the week you’re not working can be spent doing things you’ve missed out on the days that you do work. Make this your designated beach day or shopping day! Hang out with friends and see the latest box-office hit or go out for coffee.
Weekends mean adventure.
Long weekends, especially, prove to be the best time to take road trips! I have done this multiple times already to see Chicago and also for concerts! Weekends are awesome for camping trips and of course music festivals. Explore different cities and meet new people. Catch a baseball game or visit the zoo.
Learn how to treat yourself!
Working 40 hours, or more, a week and/or also taking classes puts a pretty heavy toll on our bodies and minds. Pamper yourself with a massage, get a mani/pedi, and indulge yourself in that new frappuccino. Make yourself free from any hard thinking and work for 24 hours; pure relaxation is one of the best feelings in life. I promise, you will thank yourself later.
I always tend to worry because I know I am getting older and time is precious. I want to enjoy the time I have in my youth and experience as many different adventures as possible before responsibility kicks in and my age increases. It is possible to juggle obligations with fun because in ten years the long days of work will fade, but the fun summer memories will last for a lifetime.
