Personally, I’ve never had a problem with clowns. I’ve loved clowns since I was old enough to register what they were. My first experience with a clown was a sweet one. Her name was Dotty the Clown. Originally I thought this was a name she came up with by herself but then I came to realize that there were several Dotty the Clowns, but I enjoyed mine. I saw her at a family reunion, and I even took a picture with her that I keep in my mom’s china closet to this day. I’ve never really been afraid of clowns, but then again I wasn’t exposed to the creepy, pale, bright red smile clowns that many people have come to be afraid of.
It isn’t easy being a clown today with the nonsense going on, people going around like killer clowns and terrifying people. I was really hoping this was just a publicity stunt, trying to bring in some viewers to see the movie “IT” possibly playing off the character Pennywise. Either way it isn’t funny, nor is it cute. Some people rely on being a clown to get the bills paid, and some people truly love the craft of entertaining without needing to be serious like a magician.
Today I watched a story on a woman who was a clown for years but now people want to kill her. She’s been tempted to take off her wig and make up before she leaves a party so she can get to her car safely. If that wasn’t enough, she’s been losing business. No one can afford to lose business in this economy, but since people decided it would be funny to play murderous clowns, people who are actually clowns for a living have to suffer. Some people actually go to college to be clowns, and now they can’t do what they love.
My brother is a party clown. He doesn’t dress up all creepy, he’s a very warm and friendly person. As far as I know children love his routines and it was a great little side job to have to help support his family. I can’t imagine his business doing too well with this new clown nonsense. This being said, I might be a little biased because I have family directly affected by the clown epidemic but come on! Can’t we keep one thing good and pure, the art of family friendly comedy.
