How Does She Do It?

Making history is a tough job, but someone has to do it.

In this year’s Presidential Election, history is being made.

There has never been a female president, let alone a female Democratic nominee, in any previous election. This is a big deal! In 2009, Hillary Clinton competed with Barack Obama to obtain the Democratic nomination. Obama won, which was huge because there had never been an African-American president before. This year, though, it’s Hillary’s time to shine!

Being a woman in the Presidential Election puts a lot of pressure on Clinton. This is the path that has not been traveled on yet, so everything for her is a new experience. In fact, this is new for the entire nation! Yet, Clinton has been the secretary of state for many years. Her husband, Bill Clinton, was the president of the United States as well. He will be the first ever first man if Hillary Clinton becomes President. I always dreamt what it would be like to be the president of the U.S. when I was a kid. Now that I think about it more, I couldn’t handle the pressure. Hopefully, Hillary Clinton is paving a way for more women to be in charge. If this is the case, why is there so much unnecessary pressure being put on her?

Obviously, running a campaign and competing against the Republican nominee is a tough job. But because Clinton is female, there is more stress for her, more pressure. If Clinton even so much as stutters, people will criticize her. Maybe that’s a little too dramatic but think about it. One big issue that’s been speculated on way too much is the private email server. Clinton used a private email server during her time as secretary of state. The rule is that the secretary of state has to use a public email server. This topic has been discussed many times. If a man had done this, there would be no more discussion. No questions asked, just moving on. As far as we know, using a private email server did not cause a giant amount of damage. But because Hillary Clinton is a woman, no one will let this go.

When this email server issue came out, Donald Trump jumped at the chance to criticize Clinton. He called her “Crooked Hillary.” Yet, Trump is far from perfect. He discriminates against women, people with disabilities, and Mexicans. The list goes on and on. So why is everyone in this society expecting Clinton to act perfectly and be a superhuman when Trump is far below her? Why isn’t he the one being challenged? Where is this hate for Clinton coming from?

I don’t have the exact answer to those questions, but what I do know is that fear has a lot to do with it. There is always the fear of the unknown. But this election is much more than one private email server. Would you rather want a man who bullies? Or would you rather want a woman who knows what she is doing and spreads kindness around the world? Who would you want to lead this country? Take a moment and reflect on this. Don’t forget to consider both sides before you vote this November. And Clinton, keep fighting the good fight.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
