It's crazy to think that one small choice you make could impact your whole life; who would think that choosing to get coffee one morning would make you late to work and cause you to rush and accidentally pour coffee all over your boss's white shirt and get you fired because as it turns out he was in a bad mood because he decided to bike to work today instead of drive and chose not to look both ways before riding across a street and almost got killed?
You always see stuff like that in movies, but the thing is stuff like that happens all the time to us in real life. We just don't normally notice it because we are too focused on our own little bubble to see the power of decisions.
How is it possible that one second this person's life is upside down but then they get that one job or person to fall in love with them and their whole life is turned around? It is amazing and we need to be more careful when making decisions. Now, I am not saying to overthink everything and be super indecisive about if you should paint your nails pink or blue, but sometimes we just make decisions in the quickest moments and don't really think it through and not live the best of our lives.
For example, it's really hard to know what you want to do in life, especially when it comes to jobs. I have never been the type of person who has known since birth what they have wanted to do, and that's okay. I am sure most of you are the same way, but I feel like in regards to a major and or career choice us millennials don't put enough thought into it.
Yes, I know we are pushed since middle school to take classes that interest us and try to figure out what we like and what we are good at, and by the time we are 18 we are heading to college and have to know what we want to do with the rest of our lives or we “will fall behind” and have to stay in college longer. This is part of the reason why it's so easy to just make a snap decision. “Oh, I want to be a dentist because I like going to the dentist”. “I want to be an engineer because my dad is one and has a lot of connections”.
“Maybe I will major in business because I want to have fun in college and have an easy course load and just get a bunch of internships at fancy places”.
People make snap decisions about the rest of their lives and it's always so shocking to me. We just have to remember that our decisions hold a lot and sometimes we don't realize how important they are. I don't know if you've heard this before or not but a lot of people say someone's decision defines who they are, who they were, and who they become, and I could not agree with that more.
