Coping With Stress As A High Schooler

I know others can relate to this, as well.

The life of most high school students is, well, stressful. Being a high school student is stressful in general, but others (like myself) may take that stress to another level. We are always worried about due dates, essays, projects, exams, etc. You see, once we finish one major project or packet, there is always something else that can be done whether it is reading ahead or studying for an upcoming test within the next week. Homework never seems to stop.

Also, trying to balance is another struggle. Some students tend to work after school, including me. I like to have a sense of responsibility including paying for gas as well as other personal needs. Therefore, I get as many work hours in as I can. I usually do not get home until 10:30pm-11pm, then I have to decide which is more important: sleep or my studies? School to me is very important so I do the best I can with what I can but believe me: it is one of the hardest and most stressful things I have to decide on after a long day.

Another thing is being an athlete. I feel that most teachers do not understand the life of a student athlete. I recently started waking up on Tuesday's and Thursday's at 5:00am to workout before school. Also, when basketball and softball season come around I'll have games and practices that I like to fully dedicate myself to and not worry about the homework that is due for the next day.

Being stressed out is one of the worst feelings, especially for a teenager. We want to spend time with out families, our friends, maintain a social life, experience new things, as well as have a good nights rest. Sometimes it'll get to the point where I have no motivation to do homework or study because I can't seem to focus on what I am trying to comprehend.

Society seems to expect a ton out of us, or the "rotten teenagers". But in reality, we seem to be trying to impress everyone else but ourselves. We are trying to be good enough for the people around us rather than pleasing ourselves for the sake of our own mental health.

My advice is, whenever you're stressed - don't do the homework. Instead, relax and enjoy life which will the relieve the stress causing you to feel more accomplished and determined to finish that project and ace that test.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
