I know that I don’t speak for everyone, but how is it possible that Donald Trump is actually in contention for the presidency? Donald Trump has only brought controversy into this election and if elected, he will bring this into the White House.
He is a reality TV star.
In the United States, "The Apprentice" was a popular reality show that was been ranked in the top 10 reality shows of the decade by ABC along with other shows such as "Flavor of Love" and "The Hills." How can someone who has ever been associated in the same category as Flava Flav and Lauren Conrad, no offense to them, also be considered in the same category as Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan? The answer is that he should not be. By electing a reality TV star as the next president, the United States will then be seen as a joke.
He has many enemies.
To create a real estate empire, you make many enemies. From other real estate moguls to politicians, Donald Trump’s nemeses are everywhere. As the leader of a country, it is necessary to have good relations with everyone or, at least, to try to. Donald Trump does not fit this welcoming disposition. He is a cutthroat business man who will do whatever it takes to win, someone who we do not want running our country. He has been linked to organized crime and, as our President; Trump would then link the United States to these organizations. That's not so good.
He has wavered on his political alliance.
From Republican to Democrat and back again, Trump has not had a consistent political affiliation and this unpredictability leads to a lack of trust. How do we know that when in office, Trump will not just change his views and go against his word or the things that he has promised throughout the campaign process? We need a president who we can trust to lead our country into success, not into confusion.
He has extreme views.
Trump has stereotyped immigrants, bashed universal healthcare, and made dangerous political promises. Trump has suggested a ban on all Muslims entering the country, pigeonholing all Muslims as terrorists. He has also commented on Mexican immigrants in the context of drugs and crime, almost blaming them for these problems in the United States. Trump also claims that, as soon as he enters the office, he will repel Obamacare and the idea of universal healthcare. I may be biased here, but this will set the United States back instead of leading to progress. Lastly, he has made assertions about war on ISIS. He has promised to send ground troops into the Middle East to combat ISIS, putting American lives at risk.
Overall, Trump is a reality star with many enemies that we cannot really trust and who has extreme and dangerous political views. If Trump is elected, he will be a representation of America and all of his actions would reflect back on our country. This is in no way an endorsement for Hilary Clinton, it is more of an open dialogue wondering about how our country allowed Trump to get this far in the election. Like most people, at this point, I consider this presidential election as choosing between the better of two evils and I hope that the American people choose correctly.
