How Being In A Sorority Is Exactly Like Being A Barden Bella

Just replace all the a capella with chanting, and it's all exactly the same.

How Being In A Sorority Is Exactly Like Being A Barden Bella

We’ve all seen the hilarious and amazing Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2. (And if you haven’t, I highly suggest it.) The first one premiered while I was still in high school, but Pitch 2 premiered the week I finished my freshman year of college.

Being a Bella is just like being Greek. It's a dream come true.

1. Lincoln Performing Arts Center is recruitment.

I have not been on recruiting side, but I can already tell this is how it is. Aubrey is your recruitment chair and you are just trying to horizontal run your way through the whole process so you can get back in bed and watch Netflix.

2. The extremely excited new member

Even though there is only one new member, Emily is the equivalent of an entire pledge class. Am I right, Fall '14?

3. Beca at Aca-Initiation night.

Beca has no idea what to do, just like many new members on bid day. Why are all these girls screaming and dancing around with tulle in their hair and paint on their face? I think most of us have been in this position once or twice as new members.

4. Aca-scuse me and aca-believe it are actually totes, starbs and hoblob.

There is a whole other language for sorority girls. But instead of adding "aca" to the beginning of every word, we just shorten everything.

5. Death-defying trust exercises = Chapter retreat.

Except maybe not death-defying. It happens every fall, and it brings our chapter closer together. We can maybe just skip the whole all sleeping together in one tent thing.

6. Riff off = Greek week.

There is no synchronized singing, but there is definitely some chanting from every single sorority. Although our prize is not nearly as cool as $42,000 to Dave & Busters.

7. Chloe and Beca are the perfect big and little.

Chloe pushes Beca out of her comfort zone and Beca forces Chloe to think about the real world. Sometimes their roles are switched, but what little doesn’t act like a big sometimes?

8. Your pledge class will always be there for you.

They will always boost you up. Just maybe not in the same way that Fat Amy tries to boost up Beca.

9. Weird things happen at the house.

Sliding down the stairs on a trashcan lid? I’m sure our house mom would never allow it, but there’s also a handful of us that secretly want to try it.

10. We're all weird, but that's what makes us better.

All of the Bellas have different personalities, but that’s what makes them work. Our sororities are all filled with different quirks, but that’s what makes us who we are as a chapter.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
