The scorching sun, the blazing heat, the bright azure skies speckled with wispy clouds, and the fresh ocean breeze all signal a summer filled with, “fine, fresh, fierce."
Many of us fly away to a vacation to some exotic lands that echo of ancient and amazing feats that have shaped human civilization and history. Maybe to classy and modern metropolises that teem with glowing, urban night life, or even to some island paradise to immerse yourself into the turquoise waters and watch the sun set into the calm horizon. Okay, honestly, for some of us this is just the local beach, but you catch my drift.
Overall, traveling is what we all expect to do, especially when one has time to kill over a long break.
Traveling is one of the most jubilant and gratifying aspects of life. Some say it's crucial to endeavor in because it's a way for escape from the routine troubles that constantly skulk around, for attaining a sense of individuality, for self-discovery, and just for fun. Embarking on an adventure can really create a new perspective on things and allow a more carefree and open-minded outlook on life, but is that what is usually necessary to have a good summer?
Sounds fun, but not really. We all wish to do something spontaneous, but we can’t do that all the time. Some of us might be bored on a lazy afternoon, hitting up Netflix every hour and binge watching the next season of "Games of Thrones" or "Breaking Bad."
You may eventually reach a point when you do absolutely nothing. You may feel sad that you can’t go around and explore. You may start feeling miserable at best. What else can you do when you’ve got nothing left to do, or you don’t have the means to do the things you want to do?
You don’t always have to make a plan and go, “Cruising down the coast goin' 'bout 99." Fun doesn’t even have to include surfing the next big wave or visiting the next great geographic landmark. Whatever you do, just make the most of it. Summer isn’t just the time for passion, excitement, and exploration, it’s also the time to unwind yourself of all the accumulated stress, relax, take in your surroundings, or experience new things. Pursue new interests and hobbies. Try reading a book or two. This can be an accomplishment, believe it or not. With all the hectic frenzy that overwhelms an average college student, there is barely any time to just read for fun and genuinely enjoy a good story. Watching movies might be another one of the many common things on the list, however, try making videos and movies of your own. Dwell into your inner bohemian and try various forms of art. Who knows? You might become the next Picasso or Dali. Go for a new sport, make a music video, learn a foreign language, and swim across a lake (with caution).
Basically, get out of your comfort zone! Don’t be, “Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight,” without any direction. Soon you won’t be exhausted by that summertime sadness. Really, ain't nobody got time for that.
Now get up from that couch! Be spontaneous in your own way. It’s what you make out of your summer that counts.
