What Texas is going through is absolutely horrible. Families are being seperated by flood waters. People are losing their lives, and hundreds of volunteers are risking theirs. My question is could all of this have been prevented? Now you can't control nature, but officials and people have a right to make them own decisions.
It's important to be aware of what is going on. Many people knew the hurricane was coming. The first thing that should have happened was that people evacuated before optional and mandatory evacuations were out there. The city of Houston should have known they would be affected by hurricane Harvey. I understand many people didn't know what to do and waited for their city officials to make a decision.
"You can't blame the people or the mayor, said Estelle Marceaux. "Nobody expected the rain to just sit there, and rain for days. They expected to come and go."
Think of it in another way. Houston is huge and is cement city. There is no ground to soak up any water. The mayor will have some backlash from people in the area and other areas. Sylvester Turner, the mayor, told Houston to stay put. His reason for that is because there are millions of people that live in Houston. However, people knew when the storm was going to hit landfall and should have let on their own volition before the storm hit land. It would have allowed plenty of time to prepare.
With all the destruction caused by the storm, many people are taking it upon themself to help flood victims. The National Guard and The Red Cross are doing all they can help as many flood victims as they can. The Cajun Navy decided to join in bringing in supplies and saving lives. Texas helped Louisiana when it flooded, and now, Louisiana is repaying the favor.
In the end, my heart goes out to all the victims who have lost everything. It is important to know that you are not alone and more help is on the way.
