Life At Auburn University: Housing

What the housing is like at Auburn University.

OK, I feel it's really important to leave y' all with a little information about housing. It's a labyrinth, it's expensive, and there are enough options to leave your head spinning. Worry not, young Freshmen, I'm here. I know about the options. I live here after all.

1. Dorms.

OK, so the most obvious choice for housing when attending college is dorms. The dorms are scattered all around campus, and are a bit pricey for the emerging college student, but it may be exactly what you want and need for the full Auburn experience.

The Hill

Located up the Chemistry hill on the edge of campus amongst the college of agriculture buildings, lies The Hill. The Hill is home to 1500 students and many of the 10 residence halls have been around since the 1960s.

Cambridge

Cambridge is on such a far side of campus, most students forget it exists. It's a five-floor building home to 300 Auburn students.

The Quad

The Quad is close to the library, Mell, and the Student Center. It houses 1000 students in 10 historic dormitories built between the 1930s and the 1950s.

South Donahue

South Donahue is located near the Wellness Kitchen. It is home to 400 students, most of whom are athletes, but some non-athletic students live here as well.

The Village

The village is located on the edge of campus nearest the Rec. It offers suite-style rooms and is also home to sororities, housing 1500 students, Panhellenic and non-panhellenic alike.

2. Panhellenic

Most fraternity houses are located right on the edge of campus and boast large mansions with huge parking lots and tiger transit stops nearby. Sorority housing, however, is not as evolved. Sororities are still housed in dorms in the Village, but plans to being building a few sorority houses on New Row is starting to spread.

3. Trailer Parks

Trailer parks are great because you can bring your dog, you actually have a yard- even if it's small, you can choose your roommates, and the transits typically pick up at the parks. I don't know if you can tell, but this is the option I went with. These trailer parks are full of Auburn Students just like me who enjoy the laid back lifestyle the parks offer. There are several trailer parks such as Gentilly Student Living Community, Ridgewood Village, StoneGate, Avalon Park, and SandDollar Farm just to name a few.

4. Rental Houses

There are a variety of duplexes, rental houses and even camper trailers available for rent in Auburn, you just have to know where to look. Price ranges vary with this option, and transit don't often pick up near these locations, with one exception I'm familiar with being Bellwood, a set of duplexes with their on transit stop.

5. Apartments

Apartments can be pretty expensive but offer many amenities such as pools and workout rooms. Some allow dogs, and some fill up multiple bedrooms within apartments with strangers you've never met, so you can basically flip a coin on who you're rooming with. A few apartment complexes close to campus are The Hub at Auburn, 1322 North, and Eagle's West. Most apartments close to campus have their own transit stops or stops walking distance from the complex.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

2936
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.
