Why America Can Not Afford Another Civil War

A house divided can not stand.

Back when I was kid, from early on in middle school, we all played a silly game called red rover. A game where one side or a line of kids join hands and form a line, unified. Then there was the other side that was the same of the other side; still unified. The object or purpose of this game was for one team call for a certain player by name to see if that person could break the line. Some people could break the line and some that did not. The ones that broke the line or chain, joined the chain they tried to break and added members to make the chain stronger. The ones that couldn’t break through the line went back, some of those kept trying and a few did not. Eventually the number of people one the winning side, gained strength in numbers but there is one key aspect of the line; they are unified.

Many, many years ago, 300 Spartans stood at the pass of Thermopylae against a million soldiers in the massive Persian army. The greatest fighters stood unified as one and inflected major causalities against the Persian army. That would trigger a greater war where eventually all of Greece stood against this massive army and empire and defeated them. All the while in one instance as the great King Xerxes stood on a cliff overlooking the sea, in horror and watched his empire, fleet and army, crumple at his feet. Again the same principle, of all the armies and battles, despite all, for those that stood together, unified, they were an unstoppable force. This is because they were and fought as one. Every leader with bad intent, who wants power and cares not for their followers or people, fears the unification of its people.

As for our very own nation is in turmoil, we can’t seem to get it together. Due to unfortunate situations that in different ways could’ve been avoided, our state has spun out of control. The media keeps posting stories that get us all up in arms and keeps us biting at each other’s ankles. Back track eight years ago, one individual got elected to hold high power over our country. Since that day he has done nothing but glorify criminals, actions done by criminals, and deliberately done things to piss off the people who hold higher standards for the people of our nation. He has continually drove a wedge between us with one purpose; division. While his followers are blind to see it because they want to write history without considering the consequences…the ones who don’t want to see our nation crumple, have to watch angrily.

I will repeat what I have said multiple times in this article, a powerful leader with ill intent towards its people fears unification. We MUST unify or a fear we will not survive. We have cops that are appointed to protect and serve us are being hunted and our so fan-freaking-tastic leader WILL NOT condemn those who carry out these hate crimes. Retaliation is our worst enemy and we must not conform to it. We as a nation as of today, and the past few months, have been more divided than ever before. We must become unified. Our government and those individuals with power trying to get into that office, or stay in that office, do not care. To them we are just one number among many, just a number. But when we learn to unify and come together, we will see more death, more pain, and no solution. It is up to us now. If we can’t come together, I fear a fiercer enemy will rise and it will be too late.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
