The Netflix original series "House of Cards" has been an example of the pure quality of content that can be produced from an internet streaming service. It has caught a heavy following since its introduction in 2013. Season four was the latest installment of the Political Drama, and it certainly did not disappoint.
Season four delivers exactly what fans expected after a disappointing season three. The only explanation of this is that season three acted as a setup season for the exhilarating season four episodes. Season four begins with Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) going from husband and wife to enemies in the shadows. Clearly, since the beginning, their partnership has been a team effort to obtain the highest amount of power possible. This is evident from both of their affairs and a clear focus on progressing their careers rather than loving each other more. Claire proceeds to campaign for a spot in the house of representatives representing Texas and Frank is not fond of this.

In the midst of all of this, Frank is in the process of running for president once again for 2016. His biggest obstacle is Republican front-runner William Conway. Conway is a young, handsome, typical American veteran using his picturesque family in order to gain national popularity. Conway, at first, appears to be as clean cut as the American people see him but he is actually very power hungry as well. During this difficult campaign season, Frank goes to a college to convince the young voters there to support him. While approaching some people who do not support him, he is shot by Lucas Goodwin who is the reporter who tried to expose Frank for the monster that he is. This sends the country into chaos as it is unsettling to have your most powerful man shot down. Frank's head guard Edward Meechum was killed protecting him which causes some sadness among longtime viewers.
After the shooting, Claire starts to come to her senses about how she needs to go forward with her career and decides to work with her husband again. During all of this, though, the public still has no idea about the Underwoods' true relationship. One of the most important themes in not only this season but the whole show is the Underwoods' quest for overwhelming power. Moreover, Claire begins sleeping with author and head speech writer Thomas Yates. This creates an awkward scene when Frank, Claire, and Tom all have breakfast in the White House kitchen the next morning.
In addition, to all of this, Lucas Goodwin's old editor Tom Hammerschmidt is trying to avenge Lucas' death by starting to investigate Frank's crimes. Although he started slow, he is beginning to make good headway into the case. Tom released the story and now Frank and Claire have to do everything in order to downplay the accusations of murder, corrupt politics, and the impeachment of the previous president. In the final episode, terror negotiations are forced because of a hostage situation. In a mix of terrorism and Frank's reputation under watch, Frank and Claire decide the only thing they need to do now is to create chaos and war.
In conclusion, if you don't watch "House of Cards," you definitely should. Season four was the best yet, besides season one, of course. Season five is going to be the best yet with a lot of developments such as the war, the article going after Frank, and the election. I'm very excited to see the corrupt politics season five has in store.
