Atlanta, Georgia home of the juiciest peaches. Often referred to as the L.A. of the South or Hotlanta has an attraction to many. Atlanta has given us Real Housewives and Love and Hip Hop. Their latest contribution is Trap Music.
For those who aren’t familiar with what Trap Music is, don’t worry I’ll help you. I happen to be fluent in trapneese. Trap Music is the mixture of R&B beats with EDM (thank you, bass heads), along with vulgar lyrics. This is also a sub-genre of rap. Usually surrounding the topics of cars, money, sex, and guns (Yes, the song “Panda” by Desiigner is about a black and white BMW). Trap music is accredited to the south, many billboard trap artist, come from Atlanta. These artists include Future, Desiigner, Migos, Waka Flocka, Bankroll Fresh, Rich Homie Quan and much more.
Most rappers claim they rap about the world that surrounds/surrounded them. If that’s held true for trap rappers. Let’s at some of the lyrics to Waka Flocka’s “Hard In Da Paint”. ” I won't die for this ___ or what the ___ I say (Brick Squad) Front yard broad day with da SK (ba ba ba ba ba ba bow)”; if this a life he has lived, this is alarming.
Trap is just another form of expression like every other type of music. It’s just more in your face about. It’s very vulgar, but most of these artist have lived this life. Granted some songs like “Panda”, don’t make much sense, but too many it does. If it didn’t it wouldn’t have been number one on the hip-hop billboard for so long.
So to answer the question is “Hotlanta ruining rap”? I don’t think so, it’s a form of expression. Today’s youth is all about the “turn up” culture. So, of course, the artist has to cater to what people want to hear. I honestly like it’s very innovative way to get people to listen. Most trap artist songs are autobiographies of their own life. Other Trap artist may choose to rap about cars; either way, music is supposed to make you feel good. So, hey if Waka Flocka or Future helps you get through the day, then good for you! They have done their job, which is to make you listen.
