Summerfest will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017, and therefore, the 11-day music festival is expected to roll out an incredible lineup. I have some hopeful expectations and wishes for the fest's big 50th.
First off, I'm personally a fan of buying an 11-day Power Pass and going to the grounds stages. I wish I could attend more amphitheater shows, but I'm a broke college kid. I usually attend at least 1 show at the Marcus Amphitheater each year. In 2015, I went 6 days in a row to see some of my favorite bands headline stages like US Cellular Connection & Miller Lite Oasis. Bands such as Walk The Moon, Bastille, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, The Kooks, and Vance Joy. I saw Ed Sheeran play to a sold out Marcus Amphitheater in 2015, which was quite incredible. 2016 brought few acts I liked to the ground stages and the Marcus Amphitheater; I went fewer days, I saw Panic! At The Disco and Wheezer play the Marcus Amphitheater and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.
For 2017, I'm anticipating two big things to happen for Summerfest. I could see Summerfest doing a "best of past Summerfests" lineup, with the most memorable/attended concerts from the past 50 years coming back. The only issues I can foresee with this would be the following: some of the iconic bands, such as The Rolling Stones (who came on a huge 2016 world tour) wouldn't be touring again. Same with Paul McCartney, who just headlined the amphitheater last month. I will be intrigued to see which acts choose to do special shows at Summerfest, meaning concerts off of their tours/concerts even if that artist is not touring. Summerfest seems like a big deal to a number of artists and bands, it is seen as historically huge music festival. I could also see Summerfest trying very hard to book big-ticket artists that have never played there before. If anything, I think it'll be a pretty cohesive mix.
As I previously mentioned, I'm a college kid with minimal big gig funds, but I would shell out the contents of my bank account to see the following acts play, most likely all at the Marcus Amphitheater.
Elton John
Madonna
Hall and Oates
Hozier
The 1975
Here's hoping that 50 years is celebrated with a bang!
