I hope you fail. Let me repeat that: I hope you fail. And not just some tiny failure that you can cover up, but I hope you fail in the most epic of ways at least once in your life. I hope you fail to the point where it makes you rethink your dreams, have to change your path and start from scratch. I hope you fail so badly that you aren’t quite sure how you are going to keep moving for a few days. I hope you fail and question yourself and everything you stand for. I hope you fail and go out with a burst of flames, because, when you fail that epically, you are left with two choices, quit, or come back better than ever. This is the moment when you find out who you really are.
When you are forced to question everything you thought you wanted, every goal you’ve ever had, and who you are, you learn some of life’s most valuable lessons. You learn how to keep moving when things are falling apart, you learn how to adjust to life’s ever changing circumstances, and you learn how to face adversity straight in the face and tell it to “fuck off”. Dealing with failure is the greatest thing that can happen to anyone, end of story.
I hope that you fail and when you do, I hope you find it within yourself to be the one who can come back. I hope you find within the deepest depths of your soul, the reason behind your dreams, and you take those reasons to fight for something else. I hope that if you have the chance to try again, you go in with no fear. Because failure shouldn’t scare us, failure should motivate us. Failure should be a driving force, it should be the thing that drives us to try again to prove it wrong.
Failure has been taught to us as a bad thing. For as long as I can remember that is what I have heard “do not fail”, well I say differently, I say put forth an effort so great in to whatever you are going after that you either succeed immensely, or fail epically. Failure is the greatest teacher, it is the teacher of experience and the one thing that can truly show us our faults, and where we must step up in order to succeed. I genuinely feel bad for those that succeed all the time, they have no idea what its like to have to build from scratch and start again, they have no idea what its like to have something burning so deep within them because of something going so wrong, they have no idea what that motivation is like.
So, I hope you fail, and I hope you fail epically. I hope you learn and grow from it, and I hope given the chance you try again and succeed immensely.
