The two biggest questions I get asked in college are:
"What is your major?" and "Why?"
For as long as I can remember I could never put into words why I wanted to become a teacher and more importantly, why I wanted to teach such a young age group. It wasn't until I observed a first grade classroom for my first time that I could finally put my passion into words.
I want to be a teacher because they are some of the most influence people in a young persons life. They trust you, rely on you, look up to you and so much more.
I want to be a teacher because of all of the amazing teachers that helped shape my life. Without their forgiveness, kindness, and willingness to help me learn, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
I want to be a teacher to help students understand that just because you don't understand something right away, doesn't mean you never will.
I want to be a teacher to help children understand that learning is an incredible thing! It doesn't have to be a chore. "The more knowledge you have, the more unstoppable you'll be!"
I want to be a teacher because of that indescribable feeling I get when a student finally gets it! When it finally clicks! All of their hard work and all of my hard work pays off!
I want to be a teacher because I want students of any race, gender, or background to believe that ANYTHING is possible if they work hard and do the best that they can.
I want to be a teacher to make school a "home away from home" for the students that sometimes need to get away from home.
I want to be a teacher for every student that has been told that they weren't smart enough, didn't have enough common sense, or could never make up for lost time.
I want to be an early childhood education teacher because I believe in the future. I believe that whats yet to come is much better than what's in the past, I believe that there is still a fun, imaginative child in all of us, and I believe that one person, if it's the right person can make all the difference in a young persons life. I'd like to be that person.
