We all know Thursday is a crazy night at UVA, but here's what you should do for your best pregame yet.
If you've been blessed enough to log a few days (or even the entire summer) in Charlottesville, you might have been lucky enough to hear about Carter Mountain Orchard's Thursday Evening Sunset Series. For those of you who haven't, here is what this glorious event is all about – and don't worry, it's not just for the summer.
Continuing until September 24, Carter Mountain stays open until 9 p.m. on Thursday evenings. There's free admission and parking and no shortage of things to do. Every week there's a different live band that plays from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. With two decks and a sunset view, you can't go wrong.
Food is sold, ranging from barbecue to ice cream – but if barbecue isn't your thing, feel free to bring a picnic with some friends. Food from Feast! is always a good call; wine and cheese, anyone?
Carter Mountain offers wine tastings from Prince Michel Vineyards and optional glasses or bottles afterwards. For those who don't prefer wine, there's also a Bold Rock tasting room offering different kinds of cider, ranging from classic to pear and including the new IPA, the perfect marriage of cider and beer.
This is also where I discovered something magical that I had never known existed before: a wine slushee. Yes, they exist, and they are as delicious as you could imagine. They come in peach, blackberry, or a mix for $5. You will be getting more than one.
This summer was the first time I had ever been to Carter Mountain (blasphemous as a rising fourth-year) and the view is incredible. I have definitely gone more than once. You do not want to miss this chance to beat the heat and relax before the school year gets in full swing.
The picture says it all.
Cheers!
