One of our favorite weeks of the school year is finally upon us: Homecoming Week! The week that brings alumni, faculty, parents, students and most importantly, our mascot, all together. A week dedicated to appreciating our school and showcasing just how much school spirit we all have. I want to make sure all of my CMU readers are in the loop on all of the events going on this week so here's a quick recap of what to attend.

Monday, October 17th: Rowdy's Birthday Celebration, University Center 11-2pm

There will be sugar cookies and cupcakes to decorate, music, and of course Rowdy! Snap a pic with him and celebrate his special day Mav style.

Tuesday, October 18th: Casino Night, University Center Ballroom 6-8pm

It's Casino night and the game is poker so make sure your poker face is on fleek and get ready for a Vegas style of a good time. Did I mention there will be prizes to win?

Wednesday, October 19th: Foam Finger Decorating, University Center 11-2 pm

There's absolutely nothing that showcases classic school spirit like a foam finger. The foam fingers and crafts will be provided by PAC, (all free with your MavCard) it's perfect to have for the big football game Saturday night and to use as room decor!

Thursday, October 20th: Pub Night @ The Warehouse 8-11 pm

One of my favorite events of the month is Pub Night and the fact that it's at The Warehouse makes it even more exciting. If you haven't been to a Pub Night yet you're not going to want to miss this one. The Warehouse is literally a warehouse turned into a brewery/restaurant and the ambiance is pretty neat.

Friday, October 21st: Bonfire, Near Dominguez Hall 8-10 pm

This is where the tradition of the burning of the other teams mascot all started. This year as we play Adams State University in football we will be burning their mascot, the grizzly bear at the bonfire. Don't worry, it's not the actual mascot as that would be kind of hard to get hold of, but a paper mache duplicate hand made by the Art Department. Burn, baby, burn!

Saturday, October 22nd: Parade, Student Tailgate, and Football Game

The most jam packed day of them all. The parade hosted by various clubs on campus takes place on Main St. starting at 2pm. Then the student tailgate starts at 4 pm followed by the football game at 7pm which all take place at Stocker Stadium.

There you have it, I hope you guys are looking forward to this week as much as I am. Let's make the most out of it and paint the town in maroon and yellow!

**For more events and information visit the homecoming page on the CMU website but beware of locations and times as I noticed some of them were not up to date!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
