There is a lot to consider when you are coming home:
-- What to pack
-- What room you'll have to bring back things
-- If you'll still have a job
-- How all your friends are
-- When you're getting back together with the family
-- If you'll run into that awkward high school ex
But aside from over-thinking, there are a lot of things to be grateful for and to look forward to when coming home for Winter Break.
Spending time away from family has given me a new appreciation for all that there is to be grateful for. From late night dinner talks about the hub within the family and learning about what I have missed, to talking about the latest drama between my roommates, there is never a dull moment at the table.
Catching up with family is always a bitter sweet feeling because though you are excited to hear about what has gone on the past few moments, a part of you misses being there with them. You also begin to realize that time is passing you quicker the older you get.
But coming home from the holidays doesn't always have to be a sad time. There are a lot of things to look forward to like seeing all your old friends from high school. It's always a great time to swap party stories and hear about the latest gossip on their campus. You learn more about your friend in the one semester at college than you did during your four years of high school between silly stories, and great drink recipes.
Aside from the gathering, there is nothing better than a little bit of alone time to reflect on everything that you had learned that semester. You get to sleep in your own bed and wake up when you feel like it. But all in all, no matter how many siblings you might have, there is nothing better than coming home to your own shower. Something about not having to worry how much hot water you use, or who needs to shower next is great.
But when it comes down to the real reason that you're excited to be home, it's the comfortable feeling of knowing that no matter where you go, you'll always have people to come back to and people that love you no matter what. College can be tricky all in itself. There is no right or wrong way to go about it and sometimes you get lost along the way.
One thing that I can take from this semester alone is that no issue, whether big or small is too much for your mom to handle. You can call her up at any moment to talk about where you think something might be, or an issue that occurred between you and your roommates. And sometimes, you just need to call your mom up just to have a chat and discuss the latest drama between Aunt Sue and Aunt Marg.
