Ah, you jumped over the high hurdles that were finals and you finally made it home for the holidays. On your drive back your mind starts to wander into how things will be like when you get home. There's really no telling what your time at home will look like, and while we have these high expectations for relaxing and catching up on all of the things we meant to do the entire semester and seeing all of our friends and doing fun activities to catch up with them, sometimes life is hard, even on break.
Here's a little look at what your expectations for break are versus what they really are.
Expectation.
You can't wait to come home and sleep in your own bed and be in your own cozy room!
Reality. Your favorite pillows are in your room at school and so is your cozy comforter. You're left with a bunch of random blankets and a cold room because your parents want to keep the heating bill as low as possible. Your mom has decided to turn your room into her new storage room so there are boxes everywhere. So homey, I know!!!
Expectation.
You're going to work out and eat healthy after a finals week of eating tons of junk food.
Reality. Your parents make every single one of your favorite meals and you obviously can't say no to that. Bring on that good, good! You also can't just take a short walk over to the Rec, either. Now, you have to drive 15 minutes there and back if you just want to work out.
Expectation.
You have all these amazing plans to go to fun places with your friends and catch up with them after a long four months!
Reality. Making plans are hard, and you're also broke after buying too many burritos after late nights out. Why does a movie have to cost $12, why does a train ticket cost $13, and why does dinner cost $20?
Expectation.
You can hang out around your house and drink tea and watch some Netflix by the fire.
Reality. Your parents tell you to go ask for your summer job back at the one place you swore you'd never go back to again. You set aside your pride and spend most of your break working but, hey, at least it makes the break go by faster so you're closer to going back to school.
Ah, winter break, you're far too good to us. What sounds like a time of doing absolutely nothing but chillin' and seeing old friends, you come to terms with the fact that your time at home is slightly different than what it used to be. But you really can't complain about seeing the people you love and taking a step back until you're ready to head back to school and have a killer semester.
Happy holidays. May the break be ever in your favor.
