Why I'm Excited to Go Home For Spring Break

I promise I'll enjoy my break just as much as you do.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of students take the week to go on Spring Break, and every year it always sounds like so much fun. Some plan to party in Florida, others go exploring in LA, while others trek to Colorado to hit the slopes. However, by the time this week in March comes around every year, I don’t really want to spend upwards of ten hours cramped in a car with my friends as we venture away for the week (as much as I do love them). For me, the best Spring Break imaginable is one spent at home. I spend the school year busy with classes, homework, meetings, and am constantly surrounded by friends…and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Well, maybe less homework. But I don’t spend a lot of time with family while I’m at school. Sometimes it’s hard to keep in touch and going home for a weekend always overlaps with plans with friends and things that I have to do.

So call me crazy, but I will not be spending my Spring Break day drinking on a beach somewhere or exploring an exciting city. I’ll be spending mine snuggled up with my dog, hanging out with my parents and hopefully visiting my sister. Honestly, I may not even make it out of my house for the duration. For me, Spring Break is a time to relax, catch up on sleep in my own bed and take a little break from my friends. I’ll still have FOMO every time y’all snapchat me all the exciting things y’all are doing, but in the end, I know I won’t regret my decision to stay home. Sometimes I really feel like I need a break from life. I need a break from all of the people, from the drama, from going out, and from just living the college life. And that's okay.

I feel like society has created a stigma associated with not going on Spring Break. It's almost as if going home just isn't an option in a lot of people's minds. But going home will be far more relaxing and way less expensive than any other destination would be. And if I'm being really honest, I just don't want to commit to having to be a real young and fun person for an entire week. Maybe I'll get a little bit bored at times, but with Little Five and finals just around the corner, I know I need a break. In my opinion, a week spent cuddling with my dog, binge-watching Netflix and eating some home-cooked meals is a week well spent.

So to all of you traveling, have fun and be safe! But don't feel bad for me when I say I'm going home. I promise I'll enjoy my break just as much as you do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
