Home For The Holidays Never Felt Better

A much needed vacation usually starts away from home, and with your dogs.

Home For The Holidays Never Felt Better

We are in school for a said amount of time, withering away as we study, work, try to get good grades and still balance a social life. It is tasking for some. We lose sleep as we spend our nights out at the bars or the library while not coming home until the earlier hours of the morning, but still making it to our 8 a.m. classes (kudos to those who make it every time). It's the best four years of your life, right? College itself is an unreal place and we take advantage of it every day, as we should. We only have a limited amount of time to make the best of it.

Being home for the holidays is a treat for most. We are allowed a holiday break every once in a while. Most of us return to our homes and families and begin a nice, long and relaxing vacation away from the constant partying. Not that I don't love partaking in these events, but the body needs a break, you know?

Being home has its ups and downs. We get a much-needed break from the bars and our bodies get a nice little cleanse, especially from eating Conrad’s at 3 a.m. on a Tuesday night. Michigan State University and everything that comes with it is amazing. The fun memories, the hard work and the new capabilities that come with going to such an amazing school do not even begin to hold a value. Going to any college opens doors for its students.

There is something great about being home from all of this, though. As I was sitting in my family room watching American Horror Story with my two dogs beside me and a Lou Malnati’s Pizza digesting in my belly, I realized something. It was quiet. Weird, right? As someone in college, I would not have ever thought that I would enjoy being at my house away from my friends and the chaos school brings me (in the best way possible, of course).

Along with a quiet house and dogs as a great part of being home, you get to see your family. If you and your family are anything like mine, it is just my mom, dad, sister and myself, along with our two pups—Duke and Bella. As I am sure most parents are, mine like having the house to their lonesome again, but I am sure that it can get a bit boring. They have their freedom as they have always had, but they miss their daughters. This, I am sure of. When my sister and I finally arrive home after longs months of being in Colorado and Michigan, it is a joyous reunion for my parents to have some time with their daughters again, as it is a great time to be able to come home and relax with our parents for the few weeks we have.

There is always something great about being home. Whether it is a much needed good night's rest, or a home-cooked meal/meal from your favorite at home restaurant, being home is a treat. It is a vacation some of us truly need every once in a while, so enjoy coming home for the holidays. Soon enough, you will be moving back in with your parents! Ha!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
