There is something special about the time right after Thanksgiving and right before Christmas; it’s a magical transition time where we are still gloriously happy from food comas and the spirit of the holiday is slowly beginning. This transition time also means movie time; why not enjoy some of the classics to keep the holiday cheer coming? So in an effort to inspire this holiday transition time for more cheer I have provided a list of movies and/or TV specials to watch. (Some of these are required to watch no matter what because they are just that good!)
1. A Miracle on 34th Street
I grew up watching this in black and white from the age of the five and believe it’s a requirement to watch this at least once a week in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The movie makes you have all the feels, but I must recommend that you watch it in black and white for the full effect. If you can only see it in color I guess that’s OK too. The little girl in this movie will make you reminisce about your childhood and all the holidays of our youth, with a little hint of a sweet love story too.
2. The Blind Side
Although this movie is relatively new it still reminds you to appreciate all that you have and give to others, but let's be honest, who doesn’t love a story that involves football? The story is one that many know and still moves you no matter how many times you have actually seen the movie.
3. Elf
This movie just celebrated its 12 year anniversary, but it provides plenty of laughs every time. The lesson behind the funny guy in an elf costume is just as prominent as the laughs and just like many other holiday movies everyone big or small can appreciate it. When the songs about Santa Claus, you better believe you need to sing the spirit of the holidays can fly his sleigh to all the houses on Christmas Eve.
4. The Polar Express
This may be a Christmas-heavy movie, but the animation and storyline alone touches everyone, whether they believe in Santa Claus or not. It reminds everyone of their childhood and makes you believe in the bell all over again. If you are going to watch this movie though, you better have some hot chocolate by your side.
5. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas marathon
This one speaks for itself. No one can deny that Charlie Brown is an integral part of both holidays because no matter your age you can appreciate lessons that Charlie Brown is teaching.
I love this time of year and all the holiday cheer that comes with it. I hope you enjoy some of my favorites and watch at least one with your family this holiday season.
