10 Holiday Gift Ideas For Someone With Anxiety

The holidays can be a stressful time of year. Shopping, traveling, parties, finals, work deadlines; it all contributes to a lot of anxiety and stress. And finding the perfect holiday gift for someone with anxiety can be difficult.

Below is a list of ten presents for people who seek something deeper in life, something more immaterial, and who may need a little help staying positive during tough times.

1. Gratitude Journal

Sometimes, when we're overwhelmed by the chaos and hecticness that is our daily lives we can forget the little things that bring us joy. These one-line journals (or any journal, really) is a great outlet for those of us busy bees who need a place to quickly jot down something that makes us happy.

2. Books

These books can be self-help, cookbooks, or a work of fiction just to help someone get away from it all. This is a super easy gift to personalize if you know your person's book preferences.

3. Slippers

Our feet take so much abuse and comfortable shoes are an often-overlooked luxury that can help anyone unwind and feel at ease. Look for something super soft and warm for those cold winter evenings.

4. Tea

Nothing says relaxed like a good cup of tea. This simple yet elegant gift is a great way to guide your person in the way of relaxation if they're a tea drinker.

5. Stress Relief Games

Games that require concentration and thought can help to take the mind off of anxiety. Crossword puzzles or Sudoku books are great examples!

6. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy from essential oils has been shown to have a positive impact on mood and stress relief. Don't know where to start on oils? Lavender is used for treating social anxiety.

7. A Plant

Sometimes we just need something to take care of, love, and watch grow. This is a great gift if your person has a green thumb. And if they don't, never fear -- bamboo plants and succulent cacti are pretty low-maintenance.

8. Indoor Mini Fountain

The sound trickling water can be very therapeutic. Indoor fountains not only look nice, but they bring a sense of tranquility to a room and promote relaxation.

9. Teddy Bear

Some of you may think this gift idea is childish, but sometimes you really do just need something to hug. Since we were kids, teddy bears and other stuffed animals have protected us from our fears and comforted us in our times of sadness. And don't worry -- it doesn't have to be giant, and you don't have to go to Build-A-Bear.

10. Adult Coloring Books

These have gotten very popular over the past few years, and they come in a variety of themes. Adult coloring books are a fantastic way to help someone de-stress and recapture some of their childhood joy.

While this list is full of great ideas, the best gifts are influenced by your relationship with the person you're giving them to. In general, it's best to look for items that help to increase mindfulness and confidence, reduce stress and anxiety, or bring you and the other person closer. Let's take the time this year to share the gift of peace and relaxation with each other.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
