For as long as I can remember I've always been addicted to concerts. There's just something about a stadium full of thousands of people singing along to the same songs as you. My love for concerts started almost a decade ago when I saw a Nick Jonas concert. Over the years I strayed away from the top 20 pop hits and started listening to country music artists like Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, and Eric Church. I fell in love with the genre about five years ago and I've loved it ever since.
To fill my love for concerts I started seeing country singers perform live. I started with a Little Big Town concert and since then I've seen performers like Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, and Jake Owen, just to name a few. They were all great and special in their own way, but they always ended with me searching for the next country performer I could see in my farm filled state of Wisconsin. Not many performers come to Wisconsin because there's just aren't enough people to attend the shows. Once in a while performers will play in Milwaukee, but that's kind of a drive for someone like me who's from a small town. Luckily I go to college in Green Bay, so once in a while I get the opportunity to see someone quite famous perform.
I'm always looking for concerts to go to, so when I heard Eric Church was making a stop in Green Bay on his Holding My Own tour I knew I had to go. I got a ticket to the show months ahead of time, so the excitement just built over time. Before I knew it the day of the concert was here! When I arrived at the Resch Center it was mobbed with people. I found my seat and waited anxiously for Eric Church. He didn't have an opener, so when the lights went out and the singing started the crowd knew Eric was about to come on stage. He calmly walked up the stairs to the stage, like singing in front of nearly 10,000 people was a walk in the park. He ended up singing for almost three hours total, with a short twenty minute intermission in the middle. He played a total of 37 songs, including his newest hits "Kill A Word" and "Mr. Misunderstood". He also played many of his older songs like "Springsteen", "Creepin", and "Outsiders." My favorite part was when he sang songs from his club days. Specifically when he sang "These Boots" because while he sang the crowd took of their boots swinging them in the air. Eric Church chose two people from the crowd to give him their boot to sign. A number of people just threw their boots on the stage, but Eric was very selective with which ones he signed. He only signed the ones that he specifically told the person to throw. If someone just threw there boot on stage, well they just lost a boot.
Eric Church was one of the first country singers I started listening to and I'd always wanted to see him in concert. Nearly 7 years later I got to see him in concert and now I respect him even more as an artist. Seeing him perform live made me realize how passionate he is about his music and how grateful he is for what he's become. Seeing him live just made me an even bigger fan of his. Now whenever I hear his songs on the radio I will think back to that cold January night where I sang along with Eric Church and 10,000 of his fans.
