Hello, My Name Is

A little bit about me (Jessica).

Hello, My Name Is
Jessica Fuqua

I have been writing for Odyssey for a little over a year now. I don't think I have ever introduced myself. This article is all about me.

1. I'm from Alabama.

I have always lived in the same house since I was born. Majority of my family lives in Alabama, but a whole heap of them live all over the United States and even further out.

2. Harry Potter is my favorite book.

This is the first book series to keep me up late into the night with a flash light trying to finish the story. I have never had a book hold my interest since this one, which disappoints me. It's like a high that I'm looking for.

3. Cats are my favorite animals.

My first TY Beanie Baby was a kitty, Nipper. I still have him (no shame). I also have two fur babies, Fluffy and Spitz.

4. Reba McEntire is the greatest.

Greatest what-- you may ask. Greatest artist, actress and entertainer. You name it, she is numero uno. I don't think anyone can comprehend my love for her.

5. I'm not a writer.

I don't particularly enjoy English classes. I like the reading portion, just not the response portion. I hate writing papers. I always enjoyed blogging, however. I kept my own personal blog for years (still have it). I just enjoy putting my feelings out there. I used to tell people they could read my diary.

6. I am an art major.

I changed my major twice before I decided to follow my heart. I'd rather spend lots of money on something I am passionate about than money on something I really don't care about. God blessed me with a creative mind so why not buff up my skills.

7. I can wiggle my ears.

I'm pretty proud of that. There's not too much impressive physical stuff that I can do, but I dang sure can wiggle my ears.

8. I love love.

Sounds funny, doesn't it? My psychology class thought so too, but it is true. Love is my most favorite emotion and decision. Love is beautiful. With love, you can conquer all evil.

9. Lists are a necessity.

I make lists for everything. I make To Do lists, To Buy lists, Travel Packing lists and Grocery lists, etc. The list (pun intended) goes on.

10. Sailor Moon is my inspiration.

The series is what fueled my desire for drawing. Also, it peaked my interest into other manga and anime series.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
