You know him; you love him: Hodor. A gentle giant of few words, beloved by the Stark family. On last week’s episode of Game of Thrones, ***Spoiler Alert*** Hodor went out in a truly heartbreaking way. Too soon?
Yes, viewers learn more about the origin of White Walkers and we catch a glimpse of Bran’s simultaneous time-traveling and warging. But because Bran must know more, he gets himself and the others in some serious trouble.
Here’s where Bran really ruins everything: when Hodor is presently dying, Bran accidentally wargs past Hodor (Wylis) into the future version of himself. This scene of back and forth deaths of the same character are heartbreaking to watch. You have present Hodor doing, as always, what he’s told, holding the door and you have past Hodor convulsing and yelling what eventually turns into the word ‘Hodor.’
On the brighter side, fans finally find out the origin of Hodor’s name! Great, right?
I also found Hodor's first appearance on GoT interesting...
It's almost as if Wylis's life from that (altered) point in his timeline was just gearing up for his own death. His entire life was, perhaps, leading up to that door he had to hold.
Hodor is his name. It's his answer to everything. It's who he was. His entire life from that age was Hodor, but he will be remembered as much more. RIP.
