As a junior at Seton Hall University, I have spent my fair share of money on books for classes. When I was a senior in high school, I didn’t believe my peers when they told me college books can cost anywhere from a few hundred, to a thousand for ONE SEMESTER!
UM, hello? Do you think I am made out of money? Here are some steps to live by while you are a college student looking for books.
1. Rent your books!
Renting books is the best thing in the ENTIRE world! When you rent a book it cuts the cost more than half 99.9 percent of the time. I have saved so much money that I used for better things than my stats textbook, because I rented it for $40 instead of buying it for $120.
2. Do not sure the bookstore!
SHU, I am going to let the people know what’s up with your ridiculous book pricing. I once needed a paper back for my communication’s class, it was worth $6.00 on Amazon, but the book store wanted to charge me $30.00! Please do not cheat yourself. Use Chegg, Bookrenter, or Amazon! They always have the lowest prices for book whether you buy or rent. The best part is they even give you a free shipping label to ship them back at the end of the semester, just save the box.
3. Wait until syllabus week!
This was always a hard rule for me to follow because I am a worrier. I overthink everything, but every year I immediately regret renting my books early because the syllabus ends up having no work in the book, or the professor will tell you not to get it. And if you are a worrier like me, use Amazon student prime during syllabus week, and order your books with two-day free shipping!
Happy shopping, hope you buy some shoes or sorority apparel with the money you saved! Xo
