Of all the hit songs released by Colombian singers in February 2006, one in particular stands above the rest. This epic masterpiece combines elements of salsa and whatever else to create a musical experience like no other. I am, of course, talking about Shakira's hit song "Hips Don't Lie," the single greatest thing that resulted from the month of February during the year 2006. However, this perfect blend of several different musical genres is much more than just a song, it is a symbol of the human experience. I might even say that I owe my life to this song, because here are 5 times that Shakira's hit song "Hips Don't Lie" totally saved my life.

1. The Time That Studying Became Too Much For Me

A few semesters ago during finals, I was up all night studying for an exam when misery and hopelessness suddenly overcame me, forcing me to question my reason for doing anything and making me wonder if college is really worth it. Luckily, I had the genius idea of playing the Shakira song "Hips Don't Lie" on repeat for the rest of the night, which automatically allowed me to relax and get back to studying. There's really nothing this song can't do!

2. The Time I Was Almost Robbed

I was walking home from a friend's house late one night when I suddenly found myself face to face with a man in a mask, pointing a knife at me and demanding that I give him all my money. Luckily, I had been been listening to "Hips Don't Lie" on my phone before he apprehended me. Thinking quickly, I unplugged my headphones and began playing the song out loud on full volume. Just like anyone else, the robber became disoriented by Shakira's beautifully enchanting voice, and he stayed that way long enough for me to grab a nearby rock and hit him over the head with it, knocking him out and allowing me to run away. I kept all my money that night and didn't get stabbed, all thanks to Shakira's exquisite musical talent.

3. The Time I Found Myself In A Situation Similar To The "Saw" Film Franchise

As weird as it may seem, one day I woke up chained inside a room with the voice of the Jigsaw killer talking to me and telling me that he wanted to "play a game." Luckily, instead of forcing me to endure any physical or psychological torture like the victims typically do in the "Saw" films, he told me I could go free if only I could name Shakira's triple platinum single from 2006. Relieved, I quickly said "Hips Don't Lie," at which point Jigsaw let me go free and clear.

4. The Time I Almost Listened To A Different Shakira Song

I really owe "Hips Don't Lie" for this one. I was doing some homework and listening to a Spotify playlist when I saw Skakira's name pop up, only I wasn't listening to "Hips Don't Lie," I was listening to a different Shakira song! I had no idea why Shakira felt the need to continue making music when she had already reached the ultimate peak of musical and artistic expression, so I quickly turned "Hips Don't Lie" on and took several deep breaths as I slowly came back to reality. It took a long time to get over, but thanks to "Hips Don't Lie," I was eventually able to move past this traumatic experience.

5. The Time I Was Abducted By Aliens

One night driving home from work, I noticed a strange light in the sky coming toward me faster and faster. Before I knew it, the light had beamed me up and I found myself in a spaceship flown by aliens planning to destroy the Earth. The aliens gave me one chance to convince them that Earth was worth saving, at which point I of course got out my phone and started playing "Hips Don't Lie." The aliens looked at each other and immediately began dancing and enjoying the music. Right then and there, they told me that any species capable of creating such a groovy tune was definitely worth keeping around, so they beamed me back down to Earth and decided to let the human race live. Thanks, Shakira.

If this musical masterpiece had never been created, who knows where the world would be today. The human race's greatest accomplishments include inventing the wheel, the telephone, and of course the song "Hips Don't Lie." So thank you, Shakira, for saving my life on multiple occasions. Thank goodness that your hips do not lie.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
