On Aug. 17, University Union posted the much-anticipated line-up for the annual Juice Jam Music Festival at Syracuse University.

After mainstream hip hop and house music artists, Kendrick Lamar and Nicky Romero, performed as the headline acts -- along with other alternative bands -- at last year’s event, I was disappointed to only recognize three out of seven of this year’s acts. After researching some of these solo and group performers, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had heard a lot of their songs, and they were even in my Spotify library. Regardless, performers at SU’s notorious Juice Jam event have a habit of taking off after their time on the Skytop Field stages -- just look at Calvin Harris and The Neighbourhood. I won’t be surprised if the result after this year's performances is just the same.

Before you hike up those high wasted shorts and slide on those Ray Bans, here is everything you need to know about the seven diverse musical acts that will be performing at Juice Jam 2014.

Dillon Francis. Electronic, dub step. Originally from Los Angeles, this young artist has been making his way up in the electronic music world with his tracks featured by numerous world-famous DJs, like Rusko, with major supports by Dutch-House DJ, Major Lazer. According to Mad Decent -- one Dillon’s labels --“Dillon is what you would call an open-format electronic DJ who sees no delineation between making music and playing it.”

Most popular tracks: “Without You” ft. T.E.E.D “Get Low” and “When We Were Young." Learn more about Dillon and listen to some of his tracks on the Mad Decent website.

ScHoolBoy QHip hop, rap. Growing up in LA, Q didn’t realize his love for rap and music until 2007, when he released his first mixtape, SHoolBoy Turned Hustla. One of his biggest strengths is his ability to mesh slang and content, which was made most possible by influences he was exposed to from living in California. Although he released his second mixtape in 2009, he didn’t feel he really made it as a rap artist until his album, Setbacks, was released. In his bio, featured on his website, Q says that, “Everything [he] put[s] on paper is a true story… some of it may have a little something added or taken out because [he] can’t put the real out there all the way. But it’s always true.”

Most popular tracks: “Collard Greens” ft. Kendrick Lamar “Man of the Year” and “There He Go." Learn more about ScHoolBoy Q on his official website.

Ace Hood. Hip hop, rap.  Ace Hood is probably most well-known for his single, “Bugatti” ft. Rick Ross & Future, produced by  hip-hop/rap producer, Mike WiLL Made It, for which he won his second gold plaque. After “Bugatti” dropped in 2013, receiving millions of YouTube and VEVO views, he released a new single, “We Outchea” ft. Lil Wayne. On the Republic Records website regarding his fourth album, Trials & Tribulations, Ace describes it as, “a reflection of [his] life up to this point.” In regards to his music in general, Ace explains how, “[he] wants people to feel how real this music is, [and] if he inspire[s] or motive[s] one person, then [his] job is done.”

Most popular tracks: “Bugatti” ft. Rick Ross & Future, “We Outchea” ft. Lil Wayne and “Hustle Hard.” Learn more about Ace Hood and listen to some of his tracks on the Republic Records website.

3LAU. House music. Justin Blau, better known as DJ/producer 3LAU, is originally from Las Vegas. 3LAU was a full time student at Washington University while still performing nationwide. In an interview he did with The DJ List, 3LAU describes his work as “progressive house music.” In addition, he explains his process of creating tracks by “trying to combine the essence of post rock, like Sigur Rós and Kasabian trying to convert that into progressive house music.” You can read the rest of his interview with The DJ List here.

Most popular tracks: “How You Love Me” ft. Bright Lights, “Escape” ft. Bright Lights and “Jagger Bomb” ft. Sander/R3hab, Avicii, Maroon 5 and Christina, Tiesto, Ne-yo. Learn more about 3LAU and listen to some of his tracks at his official website.

Tinashe. R&B, hip hop. Tinashe Kachingwe is a 21-year-old R&B singer and songwriter originally from Los Angeles. Tinashe’s music has elements of pock, rock, hip hop and electronica, which is mainly a result of the influences of growing up in LA. In 2007, she was a member of the all-female pop group, The Stunners, and went on to pursue a solo career in 2011. She recently dropped the single, “2 On” ft. ScHoolBoy Q.

Most popular tracks: “2 On” ft. ScHoolBoy Q “BOSS” & “This Feeling.” Learn more about Tinashe and listen to some of her tracks on her official Facebook page, and at her official website.

Broods. Alternative, electronic pop. This sibling-music-duo is made up of vocalist, Georgia Nott, and instrumentalist, Caleb Nott. The Australian sister and brother were originally a part of the band, Peasants, before moving on to making music as Broods with producer, Joel Little -- the same producer for New Zealander artist, Lorde.

Most popular tracks: “Bridges” and “Mother & Father.”  Learn more about Broods and listen to some of their tracks at their MTVartists profile.

MisterWives. Alternative, soul/pop/folk. Originally from New York City (photo below), this alternative band recently released their debut album, Reflections. Although they are a fairly new musical group, they have a very fresh, original and unique sound that makes you want to dance or just hang out.

Songs from their new album: “Reflections” and “Twisted Tongue.” Learn more about MisterWives and listen to some of their tracks from their new album on their official website.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
