To The High School Seniors On Prom Night

It really does go by in the blink of an eye.

I can still feel the excitement you're currently feeling. It's a mixture of being so ready to go out looking your best with your best friends, but at the same time the strange feeling that this is it, it's almost over. This is the time you dreamed about, the time you couldn't wait for, and here it is. You almost don't want it to be here, but at the same time, you are so ready for it.

Take everything in. From the moment you wake up that morning to the moment your head hits the pillow-well, the next morning.

Pamper yourself that day. If you want that cheeseburger for lunch, you eat that cheeseburger. Spend the day laughing with your best friend, getting your hair and makeup done. Don't focus so much on the time, or worry that you're running behind schedule. Every aspect will fall into place.

Don't worry so much about how many pictures are taken, or who's standing next to who in the picture, or the angle the picture is taken at. They will all be treasured memories in the end.

Don't worry about who came with who in what type of vehicle, or who's leaving with who and who's sleeping over who's house afterwards.

Don't worry about looking stupid on the dance floor.

Don't worry about "prom king" and "prom queen". It all doesn't matter too much in the long run anyway.

Don't worry about if your hair looks just right, or if your makeup is coming off. If your feet are hurting, take your shoes off and keep dancing.

Here's a big cliché that you've heard countless times, but I mean it when I say don't worry about what anyone else is thinking.

The only thing you should be thinking about is spending the night with the people who mean the most to you. Focus on how happy you are; having fun with your best friends.

Too often, people spend too much time stressing over making prom night the "perfect night". I don't think it takes much to make the night perfect. As long as you are having fun, that's all that matters anyway.

Regardless of the many days that you've been spending with goodbye hugs and a mix of happy and sad tears, this night is a night to celebrate with people you've known from kindergarten to people you've became friends with through the years. Although you may have been thinking about how you can't wait to leave and be far away from these people, it's really one of the last times you will all be in the same place together. Think about how weird that is, and how you should cherish that.

When you're looking back, you won't remember the small things that seemed like they were big things, like if your nails were done just right or who danced with who or who went off to an after party. What you will remember is how you felt, and the people you spent your night with. That's all that really matters in the end. Don't forget to just stop and take in all in. Just like this whole school year, it will be gone in the blink of an eye. Make the best of it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
