To The High School Senior Currently Deciding Where To Attend College

To the high school senior currently deciding where to attend college,

Before you know it you will be sitting there on graduation day wondering where all the time has gone. You will be unable to comprehend that the four years of high school are over. All of the comfort and good times will be of the past and the future will be near. You will be both scared and excited for the college and the many new experiences ahead.

I hope you are prepared for the best four years of your life. As cliché as it sounds, college really is so much better than any previous schooling and the experiences you have will last a lifetime.

I hope that you got into the schools that interest you and that when you tour schools, you find one that you can truly see yourself at. That when you tour that one campus, you can’t stop smiling. I hope that something cliques with you and lets you know that you are at the college where you belong.

I hope that when you get there you are happy. That you can't stop smiling as you walk around campus. That you wonder every day how you got there and how you got so lucky. I hope that you can tell everyone you meet that you made the right decision and that you love where you go to school.

I hope that you keep your old, real friends and meet new friends that make you smile. Friends that make you feel good and friends that make you feel loved. I hope that you make friends who you love going out with and studying with. Friends that love all parts of you and support you through your highs and lows. Friends that will be by your side for much longer than just the four years of college.

I hope that you work hard and that your goals motivate you. I hope that you join social and academic organizations that provide you with connections that will better prepare you for the future. I hope that you can find a balance between school and a fun social life. And I hope that you have an absolute blast and make some unforgettable memories.

But above all, I hope you find a place that you love enough to call home.

It is crazy to think that I was in your shoes just a year ago. And I am here to tell you that it will all be okay and to wish you the best of luck. I am proud to say that I have found all these things and many more at my school and I wish this for all of you. I hope that you do everything you can in order to get the most out of your college experience and that you find the place where you truly belong.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
