You must be thinking what the heck is this girl doing at a five-month high school reunion? Most people usually wait at least five to ten years before they go back to high school for a reunion… But my high school was unlike others, they emphasized a lot on having a community where everyone cares about each other. So keeping that in mind, I decided to go back to my high school during Thanksgiving break to give the whole idea of having a strong community a chance.
I’m not sure what I was expecting after going back soon after high school has just ended. But every interaction felt fake to me. I found myself having the same conversation with everyone; what the transition from high school to college is like, how my classes are going, and what my major is and if I changed it since I got to college. Although it was nice seeing people who I stopped seeing as much and catching up with them, it all felt very weird. There also wasn't much I could tell my teachers besides the fact that the lack of textbooks, midterms, and finals in high school made the transitions to college extremely difficult for no reason.
I probably sound like a pessimist, but just think about it for a second. Everyone you care about makes an effort to speak with you and see you even after high school so being back made no sense. I guess I thought that seeing the kids from my high school would show me how well I moved on or did not move on with my life after high school, but I soon realized my transition only just began. I am still trying to figure out how college works with the balance between my free time, social life, and academics. I haven't had time to find my true passion yet. No one has and that's fine. I can't except to compare and brag if this just the beginning of a whole lot to come.
Everyone is in the same boat trying to figure out what they want to do and how they will make big things happen in the world. As for going back so soon, I personally do not suggest it and I will definitely not be back for another reunion until at least a few years have passed.
