Dear you,
I wish this was something I could have given you years ago, but some lessons are better learned than explained. You are the girl with the big smile, awkward personality and a crush on a boy who won’t ever come to know your name. But that is what I am here to say, it’s okay.
It’s okay that he doesn’t know your name, it’s okay that your face gets red when you're called on in class, It’s okay that you have no idea what you want to do for the rest of your life. It’s okay. I see that you worry about everything, you strive for perfection, your grades, if the boy in your class liked your outfit you were wearing today. I have a secret for you, none of this will matter in the end. If I have one word of advice that I could go back and give high school me, it would be that your worries are much smaller than you ever imagined, and your time is precious so don't be scared to take as many chances as you can.
I want you to remember that it's okay to have fun once in a while. It's okay that you might not be the most popular or most gorgeous girl in your class, but remember you are perfect just the way you are. I wish you knew not to listen to those girls tell you that you weren’t good enough to be their friend, They don’t know that you have made some of the greatest friends in college that would bend over backwards and do anything for you. I wish you never listened to that coach who told you that you aren’t good enough to be on her team. If only she knew you were on scholarship playing that sport at a Division II college.
I wish you never listened to that boy who said you would never find anyone better than him, little does he know that you have found the greatest boy in the world.
Finally, to the teacher who told you that your writing was bland and never good enough to pass her class, she has no idea you are writing for one of the largest social media platforms in the world. The point is that these people have all taught you something. It may not have seemed like a good lesson then, but in the end it has helped you become the wonderful, happy, and successful person you are.
I wish I could go back in time and show you that everything you are doing is worth it and that everything will go as planned, but life doesn’t work that way and I finally am okay with knowing that. Life is full of lessons some good some bad, but remember when things start to feel like nothing can go right just think to yourself: everything will be okay. You never know, in four years you might be writing yourself a letter talking about how grateful you are for all the decisions and mistakes you have made.
Sincerely,
Future You
