7 Reasons It's OK To Be High Maintenance

The only reason you opened this article is because you're high maintenance, and if the article is too long you're probably going to click the little "X" at the top of the screen before you read it all. I guarantee there's something better that you could be doing with your time. Don't worry, ladies, it's totally OK to be high maintenance (and if it isn't, we can do a pretty good job at convincing ourselves why it is).

1. We care about ourselves

This doesn't mean we don't care about anyone else, it just means that we put ourselves first. We want to look our best, feel our best, and be our best at all times. Even if that means being 20 minutes late because we couldn't get our eyeliner wings just right, or yelling at the barista for getting our drink wrong again.

2. We are pretty predictable

Everybody knows we're high maintenance. They know that we take too long getting ready, or that we need a grande chai latte with no whip before starting our day. There are no surprises with you. You are you, you are high maintenance, and everyone (in their right mind) knows it.

3. We have an excuse for being sassy all the time

If a girl isn't typically high maintenance, her sassy remarks are taken offensively. If we say something sassy in the slightest, everyone knows that we are just being ourselves. After all, we are the biggest sassholes of all time.

4. We are independent

We are our own best friend. We couldn't care less what everyone in the group chat is wearing to the party later, because we've had our outfit planned for a week already. If they don't like it, so be it. They can find someone else to hold their hair later on.

5. Guys know

If we ever talk to a guy or date a guy, they already know what they're getting into. They can't tell us halfway through the relationship that we're too high maintenance to handle, because we've been that way since the beginning. If they can't handle it in the beginning, they aren't the one. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who finds a guy that is just as high maintenance as you.

6. OUR selfies will never go out of style

Yes, sadly, many people are starting to hate on selfies. How else are we supposed to document our perfect contour? How else are we supposed to let the world know that we got a new shade of matte lip color? Don't worry, girl, our selfies will never go out of style. It's those awkward angled, poorly-lit selfies that will soon be a thing of the past. Carry on, divas, carry on.

7. We work hard

We are perfectionists. We are perfectionists when it comes to our looks, our work, our relationships, etc. We are willing to put the work in to make sure that everything is perfect. We are practical in the fact that we know that nothing is going to just fall into our laps. So we workout every day, we spend an hour conditioning our hair, we put the extra hours in at work, we study hard, and we love the ones we love. We do this because we never want to lose our perfect lives.

So go ahead girl, continue to be high maintenance. Don't let the nay-sayers get you down. You are fabulous, hardworking, sassy, and perfect. You are high maintenance, and you are damn proud of it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
