Living off-campus, I was able to check out some restaurants in Harrisonburg, Va. For your sake, I tried these for you. So, here's the list of the best restaurants near JMU and the reasons why.
1. Food. Bar. Food.
Don't let the odd name scare you off. They provide the best global comfort food I have had in a while. It's located downtown so it's perfect for nightlife. They have a variety of food to choose from and it doesn't disappoint.
2. Cookout
If you live in the South, you know about how Cookout is the cheapest fast food around, and for college students, the greatest at 3 a.m. I mean, who doesn't love getting a tray and a milkshake late at night (or anytime really)?
3. A Bowl of Good
A Bowl of Good consists of a variety of different bowls to get from Breakfast bowls to cold or hot bowls. Whether you're in the mood for mac and cheese, a gyro, or a global comfort rice bowl, they have it. Their portions are pretty big and they're not too pricey.
4. Cuban Burger
Cuban Burger is located downtown in Harrisonburg and is a great place to catch up. They have authentic-tasting burgers that are out of this world. My favorite burger would have to be the "Buenos Dias" burger, which is just a regular burger with potato sticks and a fried egg on it. Check it out!
5. Greenberry's Cafe
Greenberry's cafe is very close to campus--but very close to Grace Street Apartments and Memorial. This is cheaper than Starbucks, but still, has all of the flavorful coffees you love. Plus, it has more of a locally vibe to it. Oh, and you can even get a small lunch there too.
6. Pure Eats
Pure Eats has every craving food you'll want from fried pickles to doughnuts to a good old fashion burger. Whether you want breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or all three, here's where you can have it all without going to an expensive buffet.
7. Bella Luna
Bella Luna has some of the best pizza in town. The ambiance is perfect for date night and will fill you up without feeling all greasy and gross afterward.
8. Mr. J's Bagels & Deli
Ah, Mr.J's, the best hangover food one can have (other than E-Hall, of course). A bagel and coffee from here can cure your hangover from the night before and actually lets you be productive for the rest of the day. Thank you, Mr.J's.
Although there are common restaurants like Jack Brown's or O'Neil's, you should check out the ones you don't know on here because it might just become your new favorite restaurant in Harrisonburg.
