As the election heats up and we, most likely, have our two final running mates left, people just have to go against the crowd and find something new. Since so many people have given up on Bernie Sanders by now, they are looking to a new option that will not happen, Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson is the Libertarian Party nominee for the 2016 election. He also was the third party nominee in 2012. In 2012, Johnson won .99 percent of the popular vote, which was the best showing in Libertarian Party history, which would mean Johnson needs at least a 5000 percent increase in votes to win the election.
The real problem with Johnson is the damage he could do. For anyone who is not a fan of Trump, Johnson is a nightmare. Not because he is like Trump, but because he could be the reason Trump is elected. Many voters are unhappy with their choices. Clinton has a past and Trump appeals to hatred and fear within people, which has always been the sign of a dictator. Personally, though, I will take a past over a dictator any day. The result predictions are much closer than I would like them to be, and that 1 percent for Johnson is scary enough where it is, if it jumped to two or three, it could really decide the entire election. Johnson has been attracting the Bernie Sanders supporters, who are mostly people who would typically vote for Clinton if they were forced to make a desicion between the two, but now they do not want to feel forced and instead are running toward Johnson. This means Clinton is losing those votes. Johnson is essentially splitting the Democratic party. A split Democratic party means a win for the Republican party, and then before we know what is happening, we will be staring at a smiling, President Trump through our TV screens.
Of course, voting for Johnson sounds like a simple, maybe even fun, solution. But Johnson has zero chance of winning presidency, and Trump has a very good chance of winning it. For all the people who say they will just leave the country, I currently am travelling about the world, from Canada to Asia to Europe, I have strangers come up to me scared about our elections. They all tell me how Trump as president could not only be damaging for our country, but it could also be extremely damaging for our world. So, it is time to stop joking about voting for Johnson and get serious about the idea of having someone in a presidential position who has the power to communicate with North Korea and is not afraid to say whatever they want to in the moment, I do not think Kim Jong-Un will be nearly as forgiving as the American people. Johnson is not an option, and yes, I am forcing you to make decision and vote for Hillary or Trump.
