Hi, Hello, It's Me

I'm supposed to use the next 500 words to tell you all about who I am and why you should read all the exciting things I have to say, based on the copious amounts of wisdom I've acquired in my 20 years. Well in the spirit of transparency, I'm going to cut to the chase: I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Seriously - I’m winging this thing.

I'm a college senior, who eats obscene amounts of Nutella and drinks too much coffee. Travel is my drug of choice (and my rehab). Nothing makes me happier than good company, and an equally good glass of wine. I’m probably years and years away from being a real adult, and have absolutely no idea what I want to do when I grow up. I'm passionate about exploring new cultures and unique foods. I'm interested in politics and people. I have an American birth certificate, a French passport, a Russian appetite, and an Italian spirit. I'm a little sarcastic and a whole lot of weird, but I'm never bored. I'm plenty of different things, but omnipotent is not one of them.

So if you came here to get some insight on the meaning of life, or learn how to successfully navigate the adult world, you've probably come to the wrong place. If you want to know the secret to making millions, I'm not going to be much help. I can’t tell you about where to invest your money, or explain the fundamentals of a 401K (I’ve heard you’re going to need one, though). If these things are what you're looking for, I predict you’re going to be disappointed.

Instead, here's what I can offer you. I can promise an honest play-by-play of what it's like to be young, broke, and hungry for adventure. I want to take you along for the ride, and hope we may even be able to commiserate in our mutual confusion about life. I want to write about dating, politics and everything in between. I want to record my experiences, and the lessons I’m learning, that way maybe you can learn from my mistakes (and avoid them altogether). I’m going to try and start conversations about things that are important; talk about the things we care about. I may even reveal a few secrets about myself. And I swear, I won’t ever be as dramatic or grandiose as I am now. Probably.

Do I think my weekly articles are going to change the world? *chuckles*… no, probably not. But if I can start a single conversation, provide a new perspective, or even get someone to laugh once, I'll be satisfied.

The point is - I'm here to chronicle this wonderfully weird Odyssey (ha-see what I did there!?). As college students, we’re on a very particular journey, and what better way to commemorate it than to confront its dynamics and challenges, head on. Because it's not about where you start, or how you end, but all the stuff in between. And truthfully, if you ask me, it's the only part that matters. So on that note, here we go. Join me, won’t you?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
