As long as I can remember, I've been in love with people. Every choice I have ever made has been heavily influenced by the genuine love that lies in my heart. Yes, I am young; there's a lot in my life that has yet to be. However, I am not blind and I am not naïve. I am fully aware of the darkness that gently caresses and subdues the beauty of this world at times. Dark shadows have held me hostage and then left me broken, but they have never eclipsed the magnificence that lies within each soul. They never will.
Each and every living being on this earth is complex and unique. I guarantee you that every second, millions of souls are experiencing millions of different things. Even in the exact same scenario, no two minds process it the exact same way. While I think on the intricacies of the formation of grass, another may feel the blades of green against their skin and be transported back to a moment of safety. Conversations exist because we function differently. Our brains allow us to exist and our souls allow us to see. How amazing it is that billions of lives exist within the same timeline? With the passing of a second, the world is changing, and so are we. Twenty seconds from now, millions will be smiling, each for their own reason. 50 seconds from now, a man will be marrying the love of his life and a child will be discovering their passion. These significant, astounding humans amaze me every day.
I am constantly reminded that nothing in life will ever compare to a genuine smile. It very well may be the simplest act, next to breathing. Yet, there is something to be said about the way it amplifies the brightness of the sun and clarifies the chaos of the world. Smiles are as contagious as yawns. One very small movement of muscles can change everything. We, as citizens of this world, have the power within us to be that change. All we have to do is harness a small amount of the kindness that we possess. At times, it seems impossible to find your own light, but there will always be another in the world ready to help you search for it. We are all a combination of shadows and flames, a mixture of landscapes and shards of glass; for this, I am thankful.
More than anything, I am grateful to be a person. Within the confines of my existence, I am blessed to observe countless lives. As individuals are molded by their experiences and by others, I am allowed a glimpse into their souls. There is so much to love about each and every human being.
In no way am I saying I'm perfect in regards to my daily interactions. We are all flawed and those flaws can tear holes in the worlds of those around you, I'm just as guilty as the next person. However, no amount of tears can negate my love for you. Time and time again, forgiveness will heal the wounds and souls will evolve into more than our minds can comprehend. Time and time again, I will cherish each and every being in existence. There are wrongs in this world that prevail, but the human spirit can, and does, conquer all.
So, go on, tell me I'm naïve and I'll tell you that you're beautiful.
