Since I'm going into my second year of college I kind of know what to expect. Although there are a few things I wish I would have been told as a freshman. Like, how hard the first semester is, or how it is completely normal to cry when your parents leave. The room mate you have your first semester may not be the one you live with your second semester. It may take the whole year to find someone you are comfortable with. Speaking of living with others, you will soon find out how annoying it can be. I found out that a full sink didn't bother me at my house, but at college it drove me nuts.
Freshman your fantasy about college is about to be shattered. Mine was. You will find yourself questioning your sanity. Heck you'll question why you picked this school. Why you picked the major you did. The good news is that it's all normal. This is the year you get to discover who you are. It's your year to begin the rest of your life. Take my advice: don't let anyone speak for you, because only you have the power to follow and pursue your dreams.
To make your life easier don't do the typical freshman things. Such as:
Wearing your ID around your neck. It makes pointing you out so much easier
Going in through the exit and out through the enter when you take up your dishes.
On the first day of classes, don't wear college apparel.
Learn what sections to stay away from at meal time.
Now, I'm not saying these things to be mean... I had to learn just like you.
I wish I had been warned about how gross the food would get, or that for about the first month I would miss home. No one told me I'd meet my best friends at college, and that I would question how I survived my whole life without them.
You my dear freshman have just started the journey of movie nights, floor dinners, long rants, and a love for caffiene. Enjoy it! Because four years will fly. As the book Perks of Being a Wallflower says, "and in this moment we were infinite."
In this short span of four years you will encounter some of the most memorable moments, and you will carry them with you always.
